P4 Healthcare and CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield
Launch Oncology Pathways Program
Evidence-based treatment initiative designed to designed to deliver consistent, high quality healthcare to oncology patients ELLICOTT CITY, Md.--(Business Wire)--
P4 Healthcare and CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield (CareFirst) announced today the launch of the P4 Pathways Program, an oncology treatment pathway program designed to promote the delivery of high quality, cost-efficient patient care.
Clinical treatment pathways are designed to provide high quality patient care through clinically proven, evidence-based treatment protocols. The P4 Pathways Program is intended to help patients, physicians, and payors. Physicians who elect to participate will be rewarded for delivering the right patient care at the right time while helping to manage drug costs associated with quality oncology care.
"CareFirst is working on a number of fronts on 'pay for quality' programs that reward physicians for taking proven steps to improve the quality and efficiency of care delivery," said Winston Wong, Pharm. D., Associate Vice President, CareFirst Pharmacy Management. "The P4 Pathways Program is designed to do just that, providing increased reimbursements for physicians who utilize oncology drug treatment regimens that are effective and efficient."
Developed by P4 Healthcare under the guidance of Mid Atlantic academic and community oncologists, the P4 Pathways program is structured to encourage high quality, evidence-based standards of care. The pathways were designed to improve the care of patients with cancer and will be updated on a regular basis to incorporate new and effective clinical approaches.
"I was immediately impressed by the process P4 Healthcare and CareFirst took in creating these pathways. The pathways are independently constructed by medical oncologists of the area and reflect both rigorous evidence based medicine and the clinical expertise of our region. I'm looking forward to participating in this project." said Roy Beveridge, MD from Fairfax Northern Virginia Hematology Oncology, P.C.
Oncologists participating in the P4 Pathways Program will utilize P4's practice management and reporting service, Practice Business Intelligence System (PBIS+). PBIS+ is not only used for reporting program compliance, but also provides oncology practices with instant analysis of practice billing information to better manage, bill, and code claims correctly.
"Our expertise is bringing together physicians, payors, pharmaceutical companies and patients in a manner where each stakeholder receives value. Rewarding doctors for providing quality care certainly helps the patient, but the P4 Pathways Program will also allow payors to better understand and manage the costs associated with cancer care including the adoption of innovative therapies," said Jeffrey Scott, MD, President and Medical Director, P4 Healthcare.
